Hi Everyone!!!! Welcome to my Environmentally Friendly Green Corner. Here are some of my favorite helpful tips and links which provide information and resources on energy efficient homes and green buildings. "Remember, the Earth is our home." (Sandy Jacquez)
1. USE COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULBS THROUGHOUT YOUR HOME (REDUCES ELECTRIC BILL)
2. PURCHASE APPLIANCES WITH THE ENERGY STAR LABEL (REDUCES ELECTRIC BILL). As of December 1, 2009, homeowners who install ENERGY STAR qualified geothermal heat pumps are eligible for a 30% federal tax credit. Geothermal heat pumps can cut heating costs by 30% to 70% and have an estimated life span of 25 years for inside components.
4. SOLAR POWER. Photovoltaic solar cells (PV) produce 100% of the electricity used. Homes using PVs are connected to our interconnected power grid of power plants and transmission lines. A solar cell is a device that converts the energy of sunlight directly into electricity by the Photovoltaic effect. Assemblies of solar cells are used to make solar panels, solar modules, or photovoltaic arrays. Setting up a solar power system on a property can increase property value and be regarded as an effective investment. According to The Appraisal Institute, by installing a Photovoltaic solar electric system, the value of a home can increase by $20,000 for every $1,000 per year saved in operating costs.
5. WIND POWER. Is now the world's fastest growing energy source and rapidly expanding with sales of roughly $2 billion dollars in 1998, according to Chris Flavin of the World Watch Institute.
